Brazos Valley Communications Launches 101.9 “The Beat”
November 29, 2007 – Early Thursday morning Brazos Valley Communications launched the newest radio station serving Bryan-College Station, now known as 101.9 The Beat, Aggieland’s Party Station. The format is dubbed Rhythmic Contemporary Hit Radio and features a blend of rhythmic pop, dance, hip-hop and R&B hits that dominate the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
101.9 The Beat is targeteted to a multicultural mix of Hispanic, African-American, and White listeners that will include a core group of 18-34 young men and women. Brazos Valley Communications Vice-President/General Manager explains that the station will mirror the diverse demographics of Bryan-College Station which is one of the youngest radio markets in America. Our cluster of stations already boasted the top two stations in the market in 98.3 KORA-FM Texas Country and 1240 Radio Alegria, as well as the emerging 103.9 Jack-FM. 101.9 The Beat will fill a void in the market for those whose musical tastes go beyond the sugary pop that dominates some CHR stations. The station will be managed by Edward Sanchez who previously ran V-103, an Urban station that enjoyed a succesful tenure in the market before its sale in 2006.
101.9 The Beat will feature a diverse group of popular artists such as Akon, Shakira, Baby Bash, Beyonce, Sean Paul, Kanye West, Frankie J., Jennifer Lopez, T-Pain, Nelly Furtado, Fergie, Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani along with Reggaeton artists such as Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen and Latin influenced hits as well. The station will be rolling out its line-up of local air personalities, popular syndicated features, specialty programming and promotions over the next several weeks. The station will be participating in BVC’s 24th Annual Radio M*A*S*H toy drive outside Post Oak Mall this week which provides toys for over 4,000 children in the Brazos Valley.
Previously, 101.9 FM was simulcasting Brazos Valley Communications Regional Mexican station KTAM 1240 “Radio Alegria” which will remain on 1240 AM where most of its listeners have been accustomed to hearing it since its 2001 launch.
