Bryan, Texas - September 25, 2007 - College Station entered a new era Tuesday as the groundbreaking for the St. Joseph Regional Health center took place at their new location in South College Station.

St. Joseph Health System President and CEO Jack Buckley launched the event as construction continued in the background.


John Hicks, Chairman of the St. Joseph Health System Board of Trustees was on hand.

George Nelson, SJRHC Governance Council Vice Chairman said the new campus was in response to a survey of residents who indicated that they like St. Joseph but wanted a campus more convenient to them in College Station.

Construction began last week and the new center is targeted to be open in less than 120 days.

College Station Mayor Ben White, who has spent 28 years as a health care association executive and is currently the Executive Director of Brazos Valley Parkinson Association, welcomed the new center to College Station.
Numerous staff members, physicians, and the media enjoyed the shade and each other's company on this hot September afternoon along with box lunches graciously provided by St. Joseph.
While heavy equipment proceeds in the background, the serious work begins with the official groundbreaking.

Conveniently located just .3 miles north of William D. Fitch Parkway on the Highway 6 north service road, the center is slated to be a premier health campus within the next few years.

Phase 1 is scheduled to commence in February of 2008 providing an additional 30,000 square feet of clinical, diagnostic and surgical space, along with a focus on wellness and convenient access to physicians.

While development plans are not yet finalized, an anticipated investment of more than $50 million is expected.
