AREA LIONS CLUBS SPONSORING TEXAS SWING MUSIC SHOW

Ricky Boen & Texas Mud bring their twin-fiddles and Texas Swing music to Bryan/College Station on Friday, February 15, 2008. The show will be at the Bryan Civic Auditorium, 800 S. Coulter, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The show is sponsored by six Lions Clubs in Brazos County. The Clubs are Aggieland, Bryan Evening, Bryan Noon, North Bryan, Bryan Breakfast, College Station Noon, and Wellborn. This fundraising event will support the clubs’ financial commitment toward a house the Lions will build with Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity.

From Odessa, Texas, Ricky Boen was the 1983 World Champion fiddle player.  The band, "Texas Mud", won the 2001 Academy of Western Artists' Will Rogers Award for Western Swing Group of the Year.  They have just completed their third season in Branson, Missouri.

When asked how he best describes the focus of the show, Ricky Boen replies, "It's simple – Texas Swing done right! Several shows will do a song or two as a tribute to Texas Swing, or a taste of it, but it's what we love, and what we do! We try to take the roots of Texas Swing from guys like Spade Cooley and Bob Wills, season it with some more contemporary icons of the style, like George Strait and Asleep at the Wheel, and make it our own. I've always said that if you come to one of our shows and leave without feeling like you were entertained, it's your fault, because we’re going to put it out there, full throttle, every time we hit that stage.”

General admission tickets are $20 each with discounts available for groups of 20 or more. Tickets may be ordered by calling 979-268-7727. Tickets are also available from members of the participating clubs or may be purchased from the following locations:
