Relay For Life of Brazos County

13th Annual Relay For Life of Brazos County May 2-3, 2008

Relay for Life....what is it? There are many of you who know what it means, and many more who do not. Some of us, like myself, know what it means because of life events over which we have no control. They just come at us, and we have to deal with it. In my case, my Dad passed away 2 years ago from lymphoma. More recently...only a week ago, my best and closest friend in the world, Austin, a Golden Retriever who was so close that he literally became our "child", also passed away from lymphoma. These life events come at us from many directions and in many forms. But, there is something we can do. Pllease read on to see why we at LifeintheBrazos.com are supporting this cause and why we encourage you to do the same. - Lee James, Publisher

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people every year to…

Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer.  The strength of survivors inspires others to continue the fight.

Remember loved ones lost to the disease.  At Relay, people who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing.

Fight Back.  We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.  Make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.

When the final book is written on how cancer was eliminated, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life will have the last chapter.  It will explain how millions of people in thousands of communities in our country and across the globe came together to eradicate a disease, forming the largest not-for-profit fundraising event in the world - the largest in humankind's history.

Tacey Raulerson

Tacey is an incredible 8 year old girl with bilateral retinoblastoma. But, that diagnosis does not define who she is. Tacey has a gift to share with everyone she meets. She is able to accomplish anything that she sets her mind to with determination and a wonderful sense of humor. And, oh yeah, she’s a little bit stubborn too!! Anyone that meets Tacey will have their lives enriched greatly through her indomitable spirit.

Jan Hunter

Jan is a survivor-3years and 4 months. Like Tacey, Jan is not defined by this. She says: “The cancer diagnosis is scary but there is so much more to life than that. I"m a school nurse at Rock Prairie Elementary in College Station and have the priviledge of being here 21 years. Tacey Raulerson is a student here at The Rock so we have fun daily. We Relay because we can and we Relay for those that can't”.

We encourage you to register to participate in Relay For Life by attending the event and participating in the Survivor Lap which takes place during the Opening Ceremonies (7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2).

Luminaria Ceremony

Please join us for the Luminaria Ceremony at the 13th Annual Relay For Life of Brazos County on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 10:00 p.m.  It will be at Bryan High School’s Viking Stadium.

The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to honor those that have survived their battle with cancer and to remember those lost to the disease.  It is a time to reflect on how cancer has touched each of us personally.  And, it is a time to look inside ourselves with quiet reflection and find hope.  Because no matter what your experience with cancer has been, we all share the hope that we will one day live in a world where our children, and their children, will never have to hear the words “you have cancer”.

Luminaria can be purchased in honor or in memory of a person who has been affected by cancer for a minimum donation of $5 each.

To purchase luminaria, contact brazoscountyrelay@yahoo.com or call 979-776-1464.
