The Navasota Merchants Group will meet Tuesday, March 18th, 5:30 pm, at the Horlock House.  Future meetings will be held every third (3rd) Tuesday of the month.  Place it on your calendar!  For your convenience, here are the dates for the third Tuesday, through January 2009:

The purpose of the Navasota Merchants Group is to be an action organization for planning and executing business-building projects to increase both tourist and local traffic for Navasota businesses.  It was conceived to complement the Chamber, EDC, and the City’s Tourism Department, not replace or conflict with any of their functions.  In fact, we are encouraging the Chamber and other organizations to attend so we can cooperate, coordinate, and generally avoid stepping on toes or duplicating efforts.

The March 18th meeting will be to firm us up a bit organizationally, define our mission, set a very few strategic goals, and brainstorm some DOABLE projects.  The current members are of a mind that a) we do just a very few, well-planned, well-executed, manageable projects, and b) plan these to start occurring in 2009, so we have ample time to do something really good.  It is critical that if we launch projects, they don’t fizzle.  Having a year or more to plan should be sufficient.  As an example for your thinking, one idea was floated that we should bring back some elements of Nostalgia Days.  Of course, all ideas are welcome.  We need to be! ! creative.  This is a dynamic time in our City’s growth, and it calls for dynamic ideas that exploit the new opportunities that are popping up all over the place.  Also, if you are a businessperson but not a “merchant” in the usual sense of the word, you are welcome!  Increased traffic from our projects will benefit professional and other “non-merchant” businesses, too.
