Hurricane Gustav update as of 5:30 p.m. Monday Veterans Park is shutting down at 6 p.m. as the gateway reception area. Evacuees entering the Brazos Valley should call 211 for a shelter assignment. The message boards on Texas 6 will direct evacuees to call 211. The large animal shelter has been shut down. A triage area at Easterwood Airport has shut down. There currently are 294 evacuees in the Brazos Valley. A small number (less than 10) evacuees from the Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange area returned to their homes on Monday. They are not yet being encouraged to leave, but they are not being prevented from doing so if they choose. State officials have asked that shelter operations continue as long as they are necessary. The Texas Department of Public Safety has been charged with ensuring that evacuees are returned to their homes in an orderly fashion. Officials from Brazos County, Bryan, College Station, Texas A&M University, Texas National Guard, Texas Department of Public Safety, American Red Cross and various volunteer agencies continue to monitor the weather. A group of about 40 officials met for a conference call briefing Monday with the Texas Emergency Operations Center. The next briefings are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy rain could occur in the Brazos Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday. This information is sent on behalf of the Community Emergency Operations Center. Further questions should be directed to the CEOC at 979.458.8750. |
