Our Mission

Hospice Brazos Valley, Inc. is a non-profit, community-owned agency committed to caring for individuals touched by life limiting illness, grief or loss

Articles

Each year Hospice Brazos Valley has the privilege of serving hundreds of families and their loved ones made possible through community support. Support that has allowed us to continually improve the quality of our care and increase the number of valuable services we provide. As the only not-for-profit, community-owned hospice in the 17 communities we serve, we owe a huge thank you to all of our supporters.

In 2007 we cared for 731 patients for a total of 40,255 care days, while our clinical staff made 30,368 visits to patients. The average daily census was 110 patients with an average length of stay of 55 days. Our demographic breakdown shifted slightly from 2006, with 57% female and 43% male. Age-wise 56.2% of patients served were 80+.

Our volunteers are an integral part of our hospice team. Through their time and dedication to the hospice mission, our volunteers saved HBV $308,504, by contributing more than 16,000 hours of service and driving over 54,000 miles.

On an on-going basis, our staff meets with civic and professional organizations, churches, clubs, schools and any other interested group who would like more information about the services we provide. In addition, HBV contributes to the education of professional healthcare providers through partnership agreements with several colleges and universities.

Bereavement & spiritual support, a cornerstone of HBV, is available to everyone in the community even if hospice services were not used. In 2007, 1,110 people attended one or more of our programs. We are committed to offering a wide selection of bereavement and spiritual care services.

Living with a terminal illness can add a tremendous amount of stress to your life as well as your family and caregivers. Fundamental to HBV’s mission is the prevention and relief of suffering, while also striving to improve a patient’s quality of life. We neither hasten nor postpone death and through personalized services and a caring community, HBV assist patients and families in achieving their end-of-life goals.
