NEW COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
BVCAA, Inc. ANNOUNCES OPENING OF COLLEGE STATION COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

BVCAA, Inc. (Brazos Valley Community Action Agency, Inc.) announced today that the dedication ceremony originally scheduled for November 8, 2007, will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008. The dedication ceremony will serve as the official grand opening for the College Station Community Health Center (CSCHC).

The College Station Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) with its mission to provide high quality affordable healthcare to women and children of the Brazos Valley. The services provided within the clinical setting are comprehensive in scope including: outpatient obstetrics/gynecology and pediatric care.

The College Station Community Health Center is made possible due to a generous gift from College Station Medical Center. The Med is one of the largest taxpayers in College Station and one of the top five largest taxpayers in Brazos County. Approximately 25% of their 2006 operating expenses were donated back to the community through charity care and community contributions. The donation to the College Station Community Health Center is an example of how The Med supports high quality compassionate healthcare for the communities it serves.

This collaboration between the not-for-profit and for profit sectors will enable countless College Station women and children to have access to the highest level of medical care available in the Brazos Valley.

"The opening of the College Station Community Health Center will assist thousands of women and children through our seven county region. It's a noteworthy and creative collaboration between the public and private sector. Several physician leaders on our campus have advocated for years that south College Station needed a community based clinic for women and children,” says Thomas Jackson, CEO of College Station Medical Center.

Jackson adds, "The Brazos Valley Community Action Agency (BVCAA), College Station Medical Center and several local physicians have worked collectively to bring the resources of a Federally Qualified Heath Center to College Station. The opening of an FQHC, dedicated to women and children, will make a lasting impact for many families throughout the Brazos Valley."

The College Station Community Health Center is located at 1651 Rock Prairie, Suite 102 across from the College Station Medical Center in College Station, Texas. The phone number is 979-693-7400. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. The clinic serves people with Medicaid, Medicare, Chip, Perinatal Chip, those with private insurance and the uninsured.

An open house will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008, from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. with the dedication ceremony beginning at 3:15 P.M. Phil Shackelford with Congressman Chet Edwards Office and State Representative Fred Brown will be present to dedicate the College Station Community Health Center.

Also in attendance will be Beverly Kuhn, Ph.D., P.E. who will make a presentation to the Reach Out and Read program. Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national non-profit organization that promotes early literacy and is supported by local community groups and businesses. Locally, the ROR program is an integral part of the Community Health Centers.

It is the mission of the Brazos Valley Community Action Agency, Inc. to assist in the empowerment of individuals, families and communities to reach their full potential economically, educationally, health-wise, culturally and socially.
