City of Bryan Hosts Public Hearing on Community Needs
Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnership programs:
Are We “On the Right Road?”
WHAT: The City of Bryan’s Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) will host two Public Hearings and one Public Meeting to ask for citizen’s input on community needs and fair housing issues.
This year’s National Community Development Association’s theme is “On the Right Road” and the Bryan CDAC want to provide key information to the citizens of Bryan regarding what two federal programs can do locally, what is being done locally, and future plans for eligible activities for these grants.
The CDAC members, who hosts public meetings to provide a forum to voice community needs, wants your comments on neighborhood issues such as housing, code enforcement, infrastructure, and access to public service programs.
City staff will also be available from the Community Development and Real Estate Services Department as well as Bryan Police Department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team (NET) members.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds are eligible to Cities with populations over 50,000 and assist the cities in providing funds for programs that benefit primarily low to moderate income citizens.
About Community Development & Real Estate Services Department
The City of Bryan provides several housing programs designed to increase the housing stock by offering eligible citizens home owner occupied rehabilitation/reconstruction, home buyers assistance and works with local housing developers, through these grants. In addition, the City funds eligible non-profits who provide direct client services to health and human services, through a joint process with the City of College Station, on an annual basis and are the 2nd largest source of funds for eligible agencies, in the area. The City has been instrumental in developing Downtown Bryan and began this development with the La Salle Hotel, which was partially funded through the CDBG grant Section 108 loan program.
