Darrell Lovelette Comes to the City of Bryan from Ohio
The City of Bryan is pleased to announce the hiring of Merritt Darrell Lovelette as the City’s new Parks and Recreation Director. Mr. Lovelette, who goes by “Darrell,” joins the City on June 9, 2008.
Bringing almost thirty-five years of experience as a Parks and Recreation Director, Mr. Lovelette is well-versed in recreation programming and all aspects of operating and maintaining park facilities and amenities. His experience includes creating a park and recreation department, developing many types of facilities (such as a miniature golf course, an activities center, and a museum), and operating a municipal golf course.
As Mr. Lovelette prepares to transition to Bryan, he states, “The City of Bryan is a wonderful community that values a high quality of life, and I look forward to joining an organization that values parks and recreation.” He adds, “In the brief time I have spent in Bryan, I already know the parks are well-maintained and recreational programming provides something for everyone. My role is to raise the bar and enhance all areas of the department.”
Mr. Lovelette holds a Physical Education, Recreation, and Health degree from the University of Vermont. For the past two years, he has served as the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. His other experience includes being the Director of Parks and Recreation in Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, for almost twenty years, and fourteen years in the same capacity in the town of Essex Junction, Vermont.
The City of Bryan Parks and Recreation Department reports to Joey Dunn, City of Bryan Deputy City Manager, who states, “The City of Bryan is fortunate to have someone of Darrell’s experience and knowledge as the next Director. Dunn continues, “As the City’s focus on parks and recreation becomes a higher priority, the City needs an individual with experience and vision who can take the Parks and Recreation Department to the next level and Darrell is the perfect individual to accomplish this goal.”
In the weeks ahead, Mr. Lovelette and his wife, Susan, will relocate to Bryan. They are the proud parents of three grown children.
The City of Bryan intends to have a reception for Mr. Lovelette and information about this event will follow at a later date.
